Quality Checking of Installations

You may have received a letter regarding participating in a random sample to quality check an installation that you have had at your property post July 2022.

Help us to keep standards high

Installers that deliver under Government funding schemes such as Energy Company Obligation (ECO)  Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF), Great British Insulation Scheme (BIS), Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) and Sustainable Warmth, need to demonstrate they are installing to recognised standards accepted by Government.

We act as a third party assessment body that delivers assessments under these accepted standards, which include:

Our role is to use the assessment requirements provided by the bodies listed above and to carry out an initial assessment to check that installers meet the requirements of the standard – this results in “initial certification”. This allows them to install insulation, gas and electrical energy efficiency measures along with solar panels, heat pumps, battery storage and EV chargers.

In order for the installer to retain certification they must also have a percentage of their work checked on an ongoing basis.

What to expect

  • Our friendly assessor will be in your area soon

  • You do reserve the right to refuse entry

  • They will have an ID badge, so please ask for this and feel free to check validity with our office on 0191 323 3960

  • The assessor will let you know before entering into the property what rooms they would like to check

  • The assessment will take around 30 minutes

  • The assessor will take photos of the installation, this will not be shared publicly, but may be shared with The United Kingdom Accreditation Service, Department of Energy Security and Net Zero and TrustMark

  • In the unlikely case the assessor uncovers something that needs to be corrected, they will inform the installer and they will contact you direct to arrange putting this right

Unfortunately there are times where an installation can go wrong, and the purpose of having third party assessments like this, is to help identify if there are lesser quality workmanship to help improve standards and prevent any issues in the long run.
